Explorations Of The Forest Floor

Last fall, I went on a day trip with the intention of doing macro photography of mushrooms. The trip didn’t quite go as expected as I didn’t find many mushrooms I wanted to shoot. I did however, find so much inspiration that I had to come back again for more. What started as idle curiosity soon became my main point of focus as I began to make my explorations of the forest floor.  What I love about this series is the colours, shapes, textures, and patterns. I like the blending of familiar and unfamiliar. Some of them have an otherworldly feel.

Featured below are primarily lichens and mosses that I found as part of my explorations of the forest floor.

I won’t even try to identify the mushrooms, but some of the plants included are:

  • British Soldier Lichen

  • Pixie Cup Lichen

  • Trumpet Lichen

  • Sphagnum Moss

  • Reindeer Lichen
