Happy New Year 2022!

Happy New Year and welcome to 2022! I always like to get out early for a good start on my photography each year. These are some of my first images from trips on January 1st and 2nd.

The photo above is taken from a hiking trip to Pine Point Rapids, one of my favourite trails. I was concerned about the low water levels over the summer and fall, however recent snowfall seems to have helped out. To this day, I have never seen the rapids frozen over - even on those -30 degree Celsius days.

This serene scene was just before the rapids. there was a bit of mist floating above the open water that just glowed with sunlight if you look from the right angle.

Below is another shot of the same scene, but a little closer.

Of course, no New Years adventures would be complete without owls. I wasn’t counting, but I am confident I saw more than 20 snowy owls on New Years Day. There was even an area where I had three in eyesight at the same time. They are pretty flighty birds, so here are a few of the best shots I got. I’ve also included a northern hawk owl photographed on Jan 2.
